Privacy notice
Last updated October 12, 2026. Version 1.
Wel-Tea is a Lula Women’s Helpline platform. This notice explains what personal information Wel-Tea collects, why, and how it’s protected.
If you visit without an account
- You can watch videos and read supports without giving any personal information.
- If you give a heart, share how a video landed for you, save a favourite or send a report, Wel-Tea creates a private visitor session in your browser. It has no name or email address. It lets you take a heart or a feeling back or remove a favourite, and stops the same browser sending too many reports.
- Visitor sessions, and the hearts, feelings and favourites saved with them, are deleted 12 months after the session started. Reports are kept, without the link to the session.
- Hearts and feelings are counted for each video, and the totals are shown to everyone with the video and on the contributor’s profile. Nobody, including contributors and the Wel-Tea team, can see who gave a heart or chose a feeling. Heart totals are not shown for topics the team marks sensitive.
- Favourites are private. Only you can see them, in Your space. Contributors and the team never see who saved a video.
Views and watch time
Wel-Tea counts how many times each video is played and roughly how long it’s watched, as daily totals for each video. It doesn’t record who watched, from where, or on what device. These totals are shown with each video and on the contributor’s profile. While a video plays, the page listens only for the player’s play and pause signals; it reads nothing else from the player.
What you write stays on your device
Anything you write under Reflect is saved only in your browser on that device. It’s never sent to Wel-Tea, so nobody else can read it, and Wel-Tea can’t recover it. The feelings you choose are saved there too, and are also added to the video’s totals (see above). You can delete your reflections in Your space, and they’re removed if you clear this site’s data in your browser. Anyone who uses the same browser on your device could see them.
If you create an account
Accounts are for contributors and the Wel-Tea team. Wel-Tea keeps your email address, a securely scrambled version of your password (never the password itself), and, if you set one up, your authenticator app details.
If you apply to be a contributor
Wel-Tea collects the details you give on the application: your public profile (name, title, bio, areas, languages, website and, if you choose, a public email) and private details for the team (contact email, and for licensed professionals your legal name, regulator and registration number). The team uses the private details only to check your application and contact you. Only you and the team can see them.
If you add a profile photo, it’s public on your profile and with your videos. Your browser makes it smaller before it’s uploaded, which also removes location and camera details from the file. Unless the team lets your profile publish without review, a new photo is checked by the team before it shows (until then, only someone who has its exact file address could open it). You can change or remove it at any time.
The team records each decision, where credentials were checked, and changes to profiles, videos and supports. An audit log records who made important changes and which fields changed, never their contents. Audit entries are kept for at least 365 days.
Videos from other sites
Wel-Tea doesn’t host videos. They play from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode), Vimeo (with “do not track” switched on) or TikTok. Nothing loads from those sites until you press Play. Once a video plays, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Services Wel-Tea uses
- Supabase stores Wel-Tea’s database, accounts and profile photos, in Canada.
- hCaptcha checks that sign-ups, sign-ins, hearts and reports come from people, not bots. hCaptcha’s own privacy policy (opens hcaptcha.com in a new tab) and terms (opens hcaptcha.com in a new tab) apply.
- Netlify hosts the website.
- Email: sign-in emails (confirmations and password resets) are sent from Lula Women’s Helpline’s email account.
Wel-Tea doesn’t use advertising, or outside analytics or tracking tools, and doesn’t sell personal information. Its own view and watch-time totals don’t identify anyone.
In your browser
If you sign in or use a visitor session, Wel-Tea saves your session in your browser’s storage so you stay signed in. Signing out removes it. Your reflections are kept in the same browser storage (see above).
When you share a video, Wel-Tea uses your device’s own share menu or copies the link. Wel-Tea doesn’t see who you share it with.
Your choices
- You can take back any heart or feeling, and remove any favourite, at any time. You can delete your reflections in Your space.
- Contributors can edit their profile and photo, withdraw changes that are waiting for the team, and delete any of their videos and supports, or their whole profile.
- You can delete your account at any time from Your account. Contributor profiles you manage alone are deleted with it, with their videos and supports.
- The Wel-Tea team’s Master Admin can delete any account, contributor profile, video or support, for example during testing or if something breaks the contributor agreement.
- To ask what information Wel-Tea holds about you, or to correct it, contact Lula Women’s Helpline through lulahelpline.ca (opens lulahelpline.ca in a new tab).
